In Yorkshire and suffering with hearing loss?
There are a number of options if you have a feeling hearing loss is taking it’s toll and you think you might need a hearing check to assess whether you need hearing aids or not.
You could obtain hearing aids via the NHS system or alternatively buy them privately through either a national high street supplier or a local independent hearing aid audiologist.
In Yorkshire all the major hospitals can supply NHS hearing aids through their ENT departments, although you can’t just turn up one day and expect to walk out with hearing aids. The route is through your local doctors surgery, they make an initial short assessment, then possible refer you to the local hospital. At some point your hearing loss is assessed and later you are supplied with hearing aids. It can be quite a process, some people don’t like the cosmetic side of the ‘behind the ear’ style of NHS hearing aids, the dexterity issues of handling them, and the end results, which are sometimes fair to good and sometimes not so good.
There is the option of visiting a national chain of hearing aid suppliers, Yorkshire has a wide range of hearing aid suppliers both from national companies and local independent hearing aid suppliers. Some feel secure dealing with a large company, although pricing can be a real issue and the issue of regular staff turnover at the larger companies makes it harder to develop a relationship with one particular hearing aid audiologist.
