Siemens iMini

The new iMini from Siemens is a breakthrough in design and aesthetics, packed with the best Siemens hearing aid technology on offer in a tiny high quality shell that sits so deep in the ear to be virtually invisible.

At Digital Hearing Care we are very interested at the moment in a number of what we can call 'invisible hearing aids', there have been some clever advancements pushing the boundaries of what is cosmetically possible. Products recently brought to market include the Starkey SoundLens, the Phonak Lyric, the Phonak Nano and the Siemens iMini.

The Siemens iMini sits deep in the ear canal, not as deep as the Starkey SoundLens or the Phonak Lyric, but certainly quite a bit deeper than a traditional CIC hearing aid (which until recently has been considered the most discreet 'in the ear' hearing aid available).

Because of the position of the Siemens iMini in the ear canal, it's faceplate is dark brown. It sits deep in the canal and is in permanent shadow so the dark brown faceplate makes the iMini to all intents and purposes invisible in use.

Its shell is a high quality pearlescent nano coated white, this gives the iMini a very polished high quality look and feel.

The Siemens iMini is packed with the very latest hearing aid technology and is available in two technology levels, the premium level 701 and the mid range 301. Features include FeedbackStopper, excellent Speech and Noise Management and eWindScreen. Also available in the 701 is SoundBrilliance.

Due to the deep position in the ear canal, the iMini uses the natural shape of the ear to transmit sound to the microphone, supporting excellent directional hearing, as well as virtual invisibility. Judge for yourself, here's a picture of an existing Siemens iMini hearing aid wearer, see if you can see a hearing aid!

The Siemens iMini is ideally suited to people with mild to moderately severe hearing loss who want a very discreet hearing aid solution packed with the latest technology on offer.

It is an exciting new product in the relatively new area of deep and semi deep sitting hearing aids, here are a selection of some questions you might have about the Siemens iMini.

Is the Siemens iMini really invisible?    The iMini sits quite deep in the ear canal, its faceplate is in permanent shadow because of its depth. It is deep enough into the ear canal to be to all intents and purposes invisible.

Is the Siemens iMini suitable for everyone?    The iMini will only fit certain dimensions of ear canal, if your ear canal is too narrow, has too tight a bend, or other contra indications are present such as excessive waxy ear canals or perforated eardrums for instance, the iMini may not be the product for you. In these cases other discreet hearing aids may be more advisable to consider.

Can I wear the Siemens iMini all the time ie can I sleep with them in?    The iMini is designed to be a daily wear hearing aid, it should be removed at night when sleeping and inserted in the morning for the day.

Is the Siemens iMini suitable for swimming or wearing in the shower?    The iMini like most sensitive electronic devices should not be exposed to excessive moisture, water is to be avoided.

How does the Siemens iMini compare to other similar deep insertion hearing products?    The Siemens iMini doesn't sit as deep as some other recently launched products but we feel it's a serious contender nonetheless. Here's a selection of similar products;

- Phonak Lyric is a deep sitting hearing aid inserted into the ear canal for extended periods, usually 2-4 months. At the end of this period the Phonak Lyric needs to be extracted by a hearing professional and a new device inserted. To press coverage of centres able to supply this product are extremely limited and cost of ownership is quite prohibitive. We understand figures of around £1400 per ear, per year are the going rate.

- Starkey SoundLens sits deep in the ear canal, its faceplate is at the second bend of the ear canal. It has a slight edge on the iMini in its cosmetics but some find the ultra deep fitting a problem and a lower candidacy rate means the iMini is suitable for a wider range of ear canals.

- Phonak Nano is a similar product to iMini and sits in roughly the same place in the ear canal. It is available in two technology levels and a good alternative to the Siemens iMini.

Can I wear the Siemens iMini when using the phone or earphones?    Because the iMini sits so deeply in the ear canal these situations pose no problems.

How can I purchase Siemens iMini?    You will firstly need to be assessed by a hearing aid audiologist knowledgeable in this particular product and if suitable a deep impression of the ear canal will need to be taken by a qualified person.

At Digital Hearing Care we are a main hearing aid supplier to Yorkshire, Lancashire and Manchester supplying this service. If you are outside our normal trading area we may be able to suggest a suitably trained professional within our UK wide network of independent hearing aid audiologists.  Siemens Hearing Aid Prices
