Not a substitute for good quality hearing aids but hearing dogs can seriously help make life a little easier if you are suffering from a severe degree of hearing loss.
So just how can a hearing dog benefit a deaf person?
Un like dogs for the blind a hearing dog is trained to react to certain sounds such as the doorbell ringing, a smoke alarm going off, a baby crying or the telephone ringing. These are the sounds that people with good hearing take for granted day in day out. Although having a good hearing aid will in most cases do the trick hearing dogs are that extra safe guard.
These dogs alert their masters not by barking (for obvious reasons) rather by touching them with a paw. After they are acknowledge the clever little dog will lead its master to the sound of the source.
These dogs are certainly exceptional animals and their trainers really need a pat on the back for all the hard work that they obviously put into training these animals to the standard that they do. These animals could just be the difference between a life or deaf situation and we at Digital Hearing care think they are an excellent idea.
